While having a canine friend can be a wonderful experience, dealing with the fleas that accompany it can be a great pain. Many pet owners want to rid their dogs of fleas but do not want to expose their pets or themselves to harsh pesticides and chemicals. For these people, a more natural flea remedy is a better option. There are several different home remedies that will deter fleas from harboring on a pet. Many of these items are found in the home and are easily administered.

Apple Cider Vinegar to Rid Dogs of Fleas

Apple cider vinegar is an option for naturally getting rid of fleas. A small dose of the product can be mixed in with the dog’s drinking water. In addition, the apple cider vinegar can be mixed with water and placed into a spray bottle. Use the solution to spray directly onto the dog.

Garlic- A Natural Flea Remedy

Garlic is also a natural way to keep fleas off of a dog. Feed the dog small amounts of garlic or mix garlic powder in with canned or dry dog food. Garlic should only be given in small quantities.

Brewers’ Yeast Home Flea Remedy

Brewers’ Yeast is another substance that can be mixed with dog food to help keep fleas away from dogs. If the dog does not like the taste of the added yeast, consider sprinkling some of it directly onto the dog such as a flea powder would be administered.

Wash with Herbal Shampoos

Using herbal shampoos rather than flea dips is another way to safely rid your canine companion of fleas. Check the label of various herbal shampoos. Look for cleansers that have some of the following ingredients: geranium, pine cedar, lavender, rosemary, eucalyptus, or citronella. Herbal Oil sprays made of mixtures of lavender essential and cedar wood essential also work well.

Wash Away Fleas with Dawn Dish Liquid

Some have found that washing their dog with Dawn dish liquid soap kills fleas on a dog. The soap is thought to work because it suffocates the fleas. The liquid has just enough oil in it to make it difficult for flea eggs to stick to the dog’s coat.
